Local Government, Tribe Win Drilling Lawsuit

Shell Oil can't drill off the north coast of Alaska, after a US Ninth Circuit Court ruling in favor of an Inuit commission and a local government lawsuit. The court's decision cancelled the multinational oil company's drilling permit, stating the Department of Interior did not take a "hard look" at potential oil spills, damages to whales, and the resulting disruptions to indigenous Inupiat people.
