Nontoxic Fishing Lures

A new
fishing lure could cut costs and enivornmental danger. An estimated 12,000 tons of fishing lures are lost annually in the US due to the sport's strenuous nature. Pliant and bendable, most of these lures are made with phthalates, a toxic plasticizer which can dissolve styrofoam and is linked to abnormal hormonal development. California banned the chemical for childrens toys in 2007, and phthalates are inaccessible in the European Union. A new lure could replace phthalate-laden lures with a stronger, less breakable product that doesn't wash up in watersheds.
